Removing text or titles that has already been hardcoded into a video clip in post-production can be incredibly difficult, especially if you don’t have the right amount of know-how.

While not easy in some circumstances, depending on what you have, and what you need to do, there are some possibilities, and one might help.

In this post we will introduce 3 easy ways you can use to get rid of any text appearing in a video.

Let’s jump in!

Part1. Cropping the Text Area out of the Video

If the text only takes up a small portion close to the video’s edge, like at the very bottom or close to the corners (a text logo for instance), then cropping out the unwanted text might be the quickest option.

This takes out part of the video, but it remains clean overall. One best tool for this task is by using Movavi Video Editor, which is a multi-featured video toolkit that allows you to capture, convert as well as edit audio and video.

Don’t have the program yet? Get Movavi free trial by clicking the free download button below.

Step1. Open The Movavi Program.

Select the video tab and choose the “Edit Video” feature.

Step2. Import the video for editing.

Select the Add Media Files button, choose the video you want to edit and hit Open.

The video will be instantly added to the timeline when it is imported.

Step3. Use the Crop feature.

On the timeline, select the video clip and then choose the Crop feature icon located on the toolbar.

A preview window will appear and you can resize or adjust the position of the rectangle to highlight the frame area you want to use.

Get rid of any black bars around the video by checking the Constraints proportions box.

Select Apply when done.

Step4. Exporting finished video.

Once you are happy with the final video, hit the Export button located in the lower right corner, it will then export and save your final clip.

Part2. Adding a Blurred Shape over the Text

If the text is in the middle of a video or in a spot where cropping won’t work, a great solution is to add a blurred shape over the text.

In Movavi, go to the timeline and select the target video clip. Next you can right-click on the video then going to Tools > Highlight and Conceal:

In the preview window, move around and adjust the orange frame until it covers the text you would like to blur.

Select the small Blur icon and adjust the Opacity slider to the blur amount you want.

To pixelate the text in the clip, select the Pixels icon and move the Size slider to suit.

To blur out more than one area, select Add Mask and repeat the step. When you are happy with the final look, hit Apply.

Part3. Replacing Text Area with Something Else

When the text area is comparatively small and you don’t want to crop any part of the video, a good solution is to replace the text area with something different like another picture or video.

This is easy to do with Movavi.

Step1. Select the Add Media Files Button to import the video clip as well as the picture or video you’d like to replace the text. Both the video and the replacing image are instantly added to the timeline of the same video track when imported.

Step2. Next, drag the picture to the Overlay Track over the initial video track. Drag the end of the image file so that it matches the duration of your source video.

Step3. On the Overlay Track, Double-click the replacing image. Adjust the image in the preview window by dragging the edges or rotate it by adjusting the Angle parameter.

You have the option to pick where the overlaid image will be displayed over the background video. From the drop-down list over the preview window, choose one that you like.

Save the video by hitting the Export button, which is located in the lower right corner, when done.

In Conclusion

It should be noted here that when the text is embedded in a video and is integrated into it, removing the text completely is impossible and you won’t be able to display what was “underneath”.  To get that similar effect, you need to rebuild the hidden parts. This process is time-consuming and the final results won’t be very impressive.

Play around with any of the above techniques and if you don’t like the final result, the other option is to create a brand new video.
